Calhoun Co., W Va.
Deep in the hills of Calhoun County, West Virginia, people still own and use
outhouses. Water is still carried from a spring to the house.
Yet, the gentle folk who live here would live no place else. Roots run
deep in the quiet, peaceful hills of Calhoun County.
The outhouse pictured above is called the Rose House, named for the rose bushes
that stand on each side. I'm told there's often a waiting line, and, if
need be, there's a creek directly behind the outhouse.
