Calhoun Co., W Va.
High in the hills of Calhoun County, West Virginia, people still use outhouses. Water is still
carried from a spring to the main house. Yet, the gentle folk who live here wouldn't live anywhere
else. Roots run deep in the quiet, peaceful hills of Calhoun County.
The outhouse above is called the Rose House, named for the rose bushes planted on each side.
I was told there's often a waiting line, and, if need be, there's a creek directly behind the
outhouse.
