Grandma Vursey's Outhouse
Hemphill, TX

Pix16

"Grandma Vursey built this outhouse in or around the year 1952. They did not have electricity, running water or indoor plumbing until the mid '60's. As a child, going to grandma's and using the outhouse was always an adventure. The only thing I had against the outhouse was grand-daddy spiders and wasps!

"The old outhouse was about to fall over on it's side when I rescued it a couple of years ago. It is now completely 'useable,' even down to the 1952 copy of a Sears & Roebuck catalog. (Corn cobs are also available on request). It is a two-holer, one round hole and one small diamond-shaped hole. The small diamond-shaped hole was for little children. Today, when my 5 years old granddaughter comes visiting, she always has to make at least one trip to the outhouse to 'use-it'." - Vickie
