Midlothian, TX
You might think that once an outhouse is built, that's where it's going to be for as long
as it lasts. But, more and more, old outhouses are gaining new lives and new
purposes through renovation and relocation. In spite of its appearance an old
outhouse may actually have a long and varied history such as the one above.
This two-seater outhouse was transplanted from Plainfield, Iowa, to Midlothian,
Texas. For many years it was on a family farm in Iowa, and when the owner
retired and moved to town he took the outhouse with him and used it as a tool
shed for 20 years or so. It's now at a grandson's home in Texas, and it
has recently been given a new coat of paint and a new roof.
