Paulcer's Knob, West Virginia
Pictured above left is the old Lon Husk place located in a deep, narrow hollow at the foot of Paulcer's Knob in the backwoods of Calhoun County, West Virginia. Above right, Husk's two-story outhouse is still standing.
Paulcer's Knob got its name from Paulcer McCune, a Confederate soldier who fled the war and returned to the Village of Hur. He avoided capture for almost a year by hiding in a secluded cave high up Husk Ridge. Paulcer's intriguing story can be found in the November 4, 2006 issue of the The Hur Herald. Many thanks to Bob Weaver, Hur Herald publisher, for allowing the use of his pictures.
